Better Cat Training
When you first train a cat, there are a number of things you need to consider. You will need to learn a lot about your cat in order to help it learn what you desire of it. It takes patience, and you will need to set realistic goals. Unrealistic goals can either be stressful or boring depending on which way you went too far.

Keeping it fun and simple will make training your cat go a lot smoother. As you go along you will surely form a bond with your cat. That’s where you will gain influence on what your cat does.

Training yourself right will give you what you need to train your cat. A good place to start is in books, online articles, and other places that have information on how cats work. The library may prove useful as well.

A great place to start would be your vet. Cats are fussy, and if they don’t feel well, they will feel even less for you. The vet can better tell how your cat is, and treat it if there are problems. Signs of a sick cat include messy fur, and strange behaviors. A cat that isn’t well though, will not train well.

The more information you have, the more luck you will have training your cat. The vet has probably given you some good advice, and you probably have read enough to know more what you plan to do. Now you want to find books and articles that are more directly related to what you intend to train your cat to do. If you cat does have problems, look for any info specific to that as well. The internet is a goldmine for all sorts of cat information such as behavior and personalities.

One other aspect that will have a lot of impact on your efforts and success rates is the cat’s age. Older cats tend to be more set in their way, and hard to convince otherwise. The best thing is when you start when they are kittens. The internet will have more on this too.

Having patience, caring, and a nurturing attitude will be your biggest asset for training your cat and it’s behaviors. If you get mad, back off. Meanness to a cat is just something to push off from and not come back. Their focus is nearly always on right now, so dealing with bad behavior later will likely be futile. If you catch them in the act, however, an immediate “NO” or some other sound they can learn to associate with negative will help.

A cat does best at its own nature or instincts. They are born with these before learning (trained or otherwise). Cats are survivors that are very independent much of the time. While it would be neat to have a cat that does exactly what you expect of it, attempting to carry this out will prove futile, and will lead to issues for both of you.

Cats have a number of instinctive behaviors that will be easier to train on. They tend to be playful, and use their paws in a detailed fashion, more than other animals do. Scratching posts, various bars and numerous toys are naturally fun for cats, and if used right can be quite helpful in training your cat’s behavior.

Your cat’s diet will be important as well. When cats don’t have what they need they know it, and it causes them stress until they find it. They are independent and will give it their best to find what they need, or be miserable if they can’t. Providing most or all of this will break down many walls, and likely make the bond between you and your cat much stronger. Your vet should be able to make some good suggestions as to what cat foods, supplements, and even things you can make are best for your cat’s health. Beyond this, you will also want some treats on hand. Often these have supplemental nutrients as well. The healthier your cat is the more it will interact with you, and even be concerned with any of your desires.

The best training starts with your kitten, when possible. When you get stressed, spend time with them as well as it will probably make both of you better. When from a kitten, there will be a stronger bond.
